The Journal
At the end of every year, I close the tattered, ink smeared pages of my journal and file it away in a box labeled “Williams important stuff”. I always purchase a new journal whether I have filled the pages of the old one or not. Wasteful perhaps, but it’s a thing I’ve been doing for about 10 years now.
2025 is here, and I was on the hunt for a new journal. I am not particularly picky about it. My journals have included everything from cheap college-ruled notebooks to a leatherbound book filled with fancy parchment paper. However, I do prefer the spiralbound ones because they are more comfortable for hand-writing.
So yesterday while trying to outrun an impending snowstorm I walked into a Dollar General Store with one mission in mind. Grab a new journal to mark up with a new year of repetitive wants, pathetic rants, and personal introspection.
I walked past the junk-food and the laundry detergent to the stationary section and began combing over the selection. There were five-subject notebooks, day planners, and looseleaf binders but it was one in particular caught my attention. A small 80-page hardback spiral-bound notebook with the statement, “Feel Good, Do good, Be good”.
“I’m not sure about that generic attempt at a motivational statement, but it’ll do”, I thought as I snatched it off the shelf with a quick swoop. I walked up to the front tossed it on the counter and grabbed my debit card out of my wallet.

Perfect beginning to the year!
As I fumbled through my wallet looking for another card, I heard the guy at the counter say, “Feel Good, Do Good, Be Good”, you know what just take it!”
“No, I have the money just a moment”, I stated, embarrassed of my predicament.
He replied, “Nah man, its all good”.
A perfect beginning to the year with the perfect statement for 2025;
Feel good, Do good, Be good,
It’s all good”
